The Drama of the Mysteries: Gerald Massey’s Reconstruction of the Egyptian Revelation 1. Massey’s Central Thesis: From History to Astronomical Mythology The Book of Revelation represents the strategic climax of a long-standing process of intellectual degradation: the transformation of “Egypto-gnostic remains” into a literalized, historical narrative. Gerald Massey contends that this text is no record of future prophecy nor a document of nascent Christian history, but is rather a “drama of the mysteries” and a “mythical catastrophe” derived entirely from the Kamite mother-source.

Massey directs his most scathing polemic against the “Sarkolatræ”—the worshippers of the word made flesh—identifying these “carnalizers” of the Egypto-gnostic Christ as the primary agents of a fatuous attempt to turn hidden wisdom into prophecy.
